Basic Fishing Rod

Begin at Mistfall Docks

The Fishing Permit and rod are separate items. Finishing Sofen's quest gives you the permit; visit Jeso's rods to complete the purchase.

1. Talk to Dock Master Sofen at Mistfall Harbor and accept Earn a Fishing Permit.
2. Collect the Permit Stamp from the crate area across the water, then return to Sofen to receive the Fishing Permit.
3. Find Fisherman Jeso on the nearby dockside crates and interact with the Basic Fishing Rod beside him.
4. Read the purchase prompt, buy the rod and equip it from Inventory.

Keep the starter rod for the first secret

The Basic Fishing Rod is more than a starter tool. The red-bridge clue calls for this rod with no bait equipped at night. A later rod does not substitute for the specified setup in the demonstrated puzzle.

Before traveling, equip the rod, clear the bait slot and check the time of day. Bring enough inventory space to inspect the reward after the required catches.

If the rod is missing

First check whether the Permit Stamp objective and Return to Sofen objective are both complete. If you have the Fishing Permit but no rod, visit the rods beside Jeso and finish the purchase.

If Sofen refuses to start the quest, read his current requirements before returning. Once you own the rod, select its hotbar slot before clicking the water.
