Slayers 2 PvP Build: Insect, Cutlass & Poison Matchups
For an Insect player moving into PvP, use Cutlass for close-range pressure and keep your next Insect skill for a confirmed opening. Kocho is an optional poison-focused pairing, but Uzui can turn poison into healing. Start with short exchanges and an escape route before attempting longer chains.

The Insect and Cutlass practice setup
This plan is for learning player-versus-player decisions once you already have Insect and the weapon. “Starter” describes the PvP practice routine, not a level-one character or a promise that these unlocks are free. If you are still using your first katana, finish the early progression route first.
Check the displayed reward chance and level requirement, then collect the actual loot after the fight.
Follow the first-katana progression buildUse this route if Insect and Cutlass are not available yet.
| Part | Use | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Breathing | Your unlocked Insect skills | Read the equipped skill bar after changing weapons. Do not copy a key sequence from a different layout. |
| Weapon | Cutlass | Use its close-range attacks to practise a short entry and follow-up. Owning it does not make every hit a guaranteed combo. |
| Optional clan | Kocho for poison pressure | Keep your existing clan while learning the base exchange. Do not spend rerolls assuming poison wins every matchup. |
| Mode | Poison Draw when available in your setup | Activate with a reachable target and a chance to keep pressure. A fleeing opponent can waste the window. |
| Resources | Stamina, ready skills and a clear exit | Leave enough room to disengage instead of spending everything on the approach. |
Practise one short exchange before adding a long combo
Use this as a branching practice loop. A moving player can block, counter or leave your range. Seeing an attack animation is not the same as confirming that your opponent is still caught.
- Equip Cutlass, face the opponent and check that one Insect follow-up is ready. Approach without repeatedly dashing through empty space.
- Wait for an opening, then enter with a short close-range attack sequence. Stop extending if the opponent blocks or you lose contact.
- After a connected weapon attack, check the opponent’s position. Use one unlocked Insect follow-up only while they remain within that move’s reach.
- If the previous move knocks the opponent too far away, return to movement. Do not cast a short-range follow-up at empty ground.
- If they counter, abandon the planned chain. Defend or move out as soon as your character can act; do not queue the rest of your attacks into the same response.
- Finish by making space and checking stamina and cooldowns. Repeat the same short entry until you can distinguish a hit, a block and a whiff before choosing the next input.
Manage stamina and Poison Draw as separate decisions
Start with one weapon entry and one breathing follow-up. Add another action only after the short sequence leaves you able to respond. Exact stamina costs and the length of a safe chain depend on your current skills and character; use the live bars rather than a fixed number of attacks copied from another player.
| Situation | Better decision | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| You have spent several dashes reaching the opponent | Delay the next long sequence and recover your position | An opening is not useful if the follow-up or escape is unavailable. |
| A skill is still on cooldown | Choose a ready action or disengage | Pressing the intended follow-up does not make it available. |
| Poison Draw is ready but the opponent is far away | Close safely before committing the mode | Running after an opponent can consume the window without meaningful pressure. |
| The opponent retreats after you activate | Keep sight of them and avoid an all-in chase | Do not trade your remaining stamina for a distant, uncertain hit. |
| You are holding guard under repeated pressure | Look for a safe change of position when you can act | Guard is a defensive tool, not a guarantee that an entire sequence will be harmless. |
Change the plan against Uzui
Uzui’s Poison Conversion can heal the defender from poison. If your setup is built around repeated poison applications, that changes the value of the entire exchange. Do not keep feeding the same effect simply because it worked against a previous opponent.
Uzui’s Musical Score also records a skill and can later perfectly block a stored repeat. The initial recorded hit still lands normally; the later matching hit is the dangerous repetition. A first successful cast does not prove that repeating it immediately is safe.
| What you notice | Adjustment |
|---|---|
| Poison is helping the opponent recover | Reconsider the poison-focused matchup. Lean on your available direct attacks and avoid treating poison as a guaranteed finisher. |
| A repeated skill gets stopped after landing earlier | Change your timing and attack choice instead of repeating the same automatic sequence. |
| The opponent consistently counters your entry | Use a shorter attempt and observe their response before spending the next cooldown. |
| Your short-range move misses after knockback | Re-establish reach before casting it; do not assume the weapon sequence kept them close. |
A useful first-session checklist
This setup is a practical starting point for Insect PvP, not a universal tier-list winner or an uninterruptible combo. Learn the response to a failed opening first; stronger equipment will not make an out-of-range attack connect.
- Identify the weapon slot, your chosen Insect follow-up and the guard/dash controls before entering a match.
- Practise a single entry and exit. Count successful decisions rather than the longest animation chain.
- After a failed attempt, pick one cause: wrong distance, blocked opening, counter, missing cooldown or exhausted stamina. Change that one part on the next attempt.
- Try Poison Draw only when you can reach and pressure the target. Watch whether the opponent fights or runs before committing more resources.
- Review the matchup before spending on clan changes or weapon upgrades. A poison counter and a missed input need different solutions.
