Skills
Whirlwind Cutter
Whirlwind Cutter has two inputs. The tap variant makes a two-hit vertical slash, with an opening hit that can suspend an airborne target and a heavier knockback finish. The hold variant spins into a horizontal cyclone, hitting repeatedly before its finishing slash. Choose the input for your target's position and inspect the current skill bar for the assigned control.

Compare tap with hold
The two inputs are versions of Whirlwind Cutter, not separate Wind skill purchases. The displayed tap and hold controls can depend on your current bindings, so inspect your own skill bar.
| Input | Attack sequence | When to test it |
|---|---|---|
| tap variant | Two vertical hits; the first can suspend an airborne target, the second launches it back. | Use against a target already in reach, then observe the knockback. |
| hold variant | A spinning horizontal cyclone deals repeated hits and ends in a heavier slash. | Test when you have room to remain close through the spin. |
Prepare the skill and weapon
Finishing the trainer quest does not automatically unlock every later move. Check mastery, points and connected nodes if Whirlwind Cutter remains locked.
- Complete Wind Trainer Saneri's six-part route and defeat the Wind Trainee.
- Open the Wind Breathing branch and read Whirlwind Cutter's node requirements.
- Unlock it when eligible, assign the move and equip a compatible katana.
- Practice one quick press, then a held press against a manageable target to recognize both animations.
Account for the finishing knockback
Both versions can send the target away at the end. Before using a second short-range move, watch where the target lands and close the gap if needed. A hold attack occupies more time near the enemy, so leave space to defend after the final slash.
