Axe and Mace
Axe and Mace is the paired weapon required for the Stone Breathing route. At Stone Sanctuary, defeat the Stone Trainee and inspect the reward chest for the weapon. The reward is not guaranteed on every fight. Once obtained, check the Uncategorized Weapons inventory tab, equip the pair and return to Stone Trainer Gyorei.

Get the weapon from the Stone Trainee
The trainer and trainee have different jobs: the trainee is the weapon source, while Gyorei starts the Stone style quest. Keep the nearby Stone boss's gear rewards separate from this base weapon.
- Reach Stone Sanctuary and find the Stone Trainee near the upper grounds.
- Defeat the trainee and open its reward chest.
- Check the current reward list and your inventory for Axe and Mace.
- If the weapon did not appear, repeat the trainee encounter rather than expecting it from Gyorei's dialogue.
Find and equip the paired set
Look in Uncategorized Weapons if you do not see Axe and Mace among katanas. Equip the weapon before speaking to Gyorei; carrying it in inventory alone can leave the trainer's weapon condition unsatisfied.
Keep the paired weapon equipped for the Stone quest's Boulder Split activity and the final trainee fight. If an input fails during training, inspect the active weapon before repeating the minigame.
Use the base weapon before planning an upgrade
After Stone Breathing unlocks, open the skill tree and confirm the Stone branch and assigned inputs with Axe and Mace equipped. A later Nightfall Axe and Mace schematic is a separate weapon-upgrade route; it does not replace the base weapon requirement for training.
