Mushroom Lit Lantern

Start with Old Trapper Retsu

At night, approach Retsu south of the Mother Bear area and ask about the lantern on his belt. In Builderboy TV's v140 recording, this dialogue leads to a 2,500 Wen payment. Read the live dialogue before paying because shop and quest prices may change.

Remove any lantern you already have equipped before trying the cave mushrooms. Retsu's clue points toward entering without a regular light.

Touch the cave mushrooms and collect the lantern

The creator takes damage while unlit, so prepare healing. Their first pickup did not appear immediately and they repeated the mushroom steps; retrying may help if your cave state looks incomplete, but the video does not prove a fixed number of touches.

1. Travel from Retsu toward the dark cave and use the approach campfire if you need to heal.
2. Enter without an equipped lantern. Step onto the glowing mushrooms and watch for particle effects from each interaction.
3. Continue to the lantern pickup deeper in the cave and collect Mushroom Lit Lantern.

Equip it to reveal the Tanto trail

The Inventory footage labels Mushroom Lit Lantern as Legendary, Class Phantom. Its displayed effects include illumination, maximum health and stamina, movement speed factor and stamina regeneration. Treat those as a v140 panel snapshot and inspect your current item's values in-game.

Equip the lantern, return through the cave and look for bright blue footprints in the snow. Follow them to a Shovel dig that yields the Firstlight Tanto Schematic. The lantern is a route tool as well as wearable equipment.
